Challenge

Technology has radically transformed operations and the customer experience across the financial services sector. In response, Standard Chartered has undertaken numerous initiatives to modernise and realise the opportunities in digital-enabled products and services.

Working with Misys (now Finastra), CCQ was commissioned to support Standard Chartered to leverage two critical software solutions.

Opics

A front-to-back multi asset-class and cross-border derivatives system that handles foreign exchange and money market instruments and market standard derivatives and retail-structured products.

OpicsPlus

Market-leading treasury system that covers all aspects of a financial institution’s treasury operations, including foreign exchange and money markets – from deal inception through to settlements and accounting.

Standard Chartered is listed on LSE and part of the FTSE 100 index. The challenge set CCQ was to integrate Opics solutions into existing systems and infrastructure while addressing and resolving all aspects of business-critical regulatory compliance.

Solution

CCQ health checked Standard Chartered’s systems, assessing points of potential failure and opportunities for improved performance. We assessed their existing workflows and future requirements before arriving at a roadmap for integration, onboarding and ROI.

CCQ’s expertise in financial services software allows us to implement complex financial algorithms and blend them with simple interfaces to challenge traditional finance systems. Our technology consultancy helped the bank resolve feasibility, benefits, and risk uncertainties.

We then delivered software solutions bespoke to the bank’s large scale rollout of Opics and unique requirements for derivatives and treasury respectively. This work included resolving compatibility issues with Opics, SQL and Sybase.

Taking a holistic approach to maximise the benefits of the Opics software, we additionally created and executed end-user and technical training programmes. CCQ onboarded technology teams and empowered them to extend and maximise the benefits of the Opics architecture.

Technologies:
  • Opics plus
  • Opics
  • SQL
  • Sybase
  • XML
  • MS Access
  • Visual Basic
  • C#
  • .NET
The Work:
  • Technology selection
  • Opics integration
  • Installation
  • Customisation
  • Bespoke extensions and feature additions
  • Training and on-boarding
  • Software development
Results

By resolving a number of technical problems that existed before our work, we delivered a marked improvement to Standard Chartered’s treasury and derivative operations.

Our work helped increase efficient operations, maximise data and modernise their customer-facing services – all propelling forward the bank’s digital transformation.
