ERP Assessment & Transformation Strategy

The University of London is a prestigious and historic institution known for its commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and excellence in education. The university operates through a federation of 17 independent member institutions, with around 40,000 students studying across more than 190 countries. The university also supports extensive research initiatives and public engagement, maintaining a global reputation for high academic standards.

Challenge

The University of London was facing a range of performance and usability challenges related to its existing ERP platform. With various modules, customisations, and integrations in place, it had become increasingly difficult for stakeholders to understand the system’s overall health, identify issues, or confidently plan for its future development.

Concerns had surfaced around usability, interface reliability, and infrastructure stability. The University needed a clear technical evaluation of its ERP setup and trusted advice on potential next steps, but lacked the in-house capacity to undertake this independently.

Solution

Working in partnership with SUMS Consulting, CCQ Tech was invited to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the University’s ERP system to evaluate its current setup, identify technical and functional issues, and provide clear options for improvement.

The engagement began with a review of available system documentation, followed by interviews with stakeholders and technical teams to understand how the ERP was being used, where it was underperforming, and how it interfaced with other systems. Our analysis covered the system’s architecture and customisation, active modules and functionality, data feeds and interfaces, supporting infrastructure, and key pain points raised across departments.

The assessment resulted in a detailed summary of technical options, an assessment of the implications tied to each path, and a set of practical recommendations aligned with the University’s operational and strategic priorities.

Platforms Assessed
  • ERP Architecture & Customisation Review

  • Systems Integration & Interface Mapping

  • Network Infrastructure Assessment

  • Data Flow Analysis

The Work
  • Conducted a full assessment of the university’s ERP environment

  • Reviewed system architecture, modules, customisations, and utilisation

  • Mapped interfaces and data feeds in and out of the ERP platform

  • Assessed supporting network infrastructure and integrations

  • Identified system, interface, and stakeholder issues

  • Produced technical recommendations and future-state options for the ERP platform

Results

The University of London now has a detailed and objective understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of its ERP system. With our assessment, they can clearly see:

  • Where technical and functional issues lie, both within their ERP and its interfaces

  • What options are available, from optimisation to potential replacement

  • The impact, feasibility, and risks associated with each path forward

These insights have enabled the University to move into strategic planning with greater clarity and confidence, supported by a strong technical foundation.
